Amalfi is so enchanting! Its ancient history and culture, a unique landscape made of a blue sea, white houses, green lemon groves and old paper mills, marvel visitors from all over the world!
We will explore the lovely Amalfi countryside beyond the city centre: the ghostly evocations of early industrialization, the mills; a stunning terrain of dramatic cliffs, streams, and waterfalls; flavouring lemon gardens.
This walking tour begins in Piazza Flavio Gioia, by the bus terminal and the ferry and cruise shore. You will stroll through old lanes of town, that leads to the Piazza Duomo, where the towering Romanesque façade of Saint Andrew’s Cathedral will marvel you.
Walking on the main street of the old city, among coloured shops of ceramic and local products, bars and restaurants, you will arrive and visit the a 14th century paper mill that has been reborn as a fascinating Museum. An inside tour will show you machinery in operation since past centuries, and how hand-made paper was originally produced.
A few steps ahead and you will trek through the “terraced lemon groves” of a local farm, stopping along the way to give you the chance to snap some truly breath-taking photos. History and old techniques of lemon production, tales and anecdotes of an old farmer’s family, and a visit to the Museum of local farming and traditions, will be an authentic experience.
Last but not least…you will enjoy the fragrance of a really hand-made lemon cake, drink fresh lemonade and cold limoncello of course!
On our way back to piazza Duomo, I will show you the nicest shops, a quaint cafè or a typical restaurant for a good pizza.
