Amalfi, the ancient city by the sea, is among the most visited touristic places of Italy. Its incomparable beauty has enchanted visitors from all over the world. Even at the beginning of the 21st century, its old centre surrounded by terraced lemon groves, bell towers, hotel-monasteries and Moresque cloisters, can still surprise us.
Just a short distance from the bustling famous Piazza Duomo, are tiny alleyways leading to a network of steps that take you to tranquil places where culture and nature express the spirit and the history of southern Italy. The ‘unknown Amalfi’ is just a stone’s throw from the renowned one!
Starting from Piazza Flavio Gioia, by the bus terminal or by the ferry and cruise shore, you will stroll to the Piazza Duomo and visit the Cathedral of Saint Andrew (10th c.), the fascinating Cloister of Paradise (1268), the nearby Museum of Sacred Art (1996), and the Crypt (1203) to view the sacred relics of St. Andrew the Apostle.
Our tour continues through a network of small streets and alleys…the ancient qasba of Amalfi, exploring hidden squares, small churches, porticoes and fountains, which define the ancient Maritime Republic and the new town’s character and vitality.
